Hallowell Lights on the Kennebec

The trees are back!

Inspired by Hallowell's colorful riverfront chairs, they'll keep the Kennebec aglow all winter.

Join us for this season's official lighting.

Tree of Light and Sing-along

Celebrate the inaugural lighting of the historic spruce tree and join a candlelit sing-along led

by HDHS musical director David Morris and students. Each night through January 37, a different

display will honor someone or something meaningful.

Kennebec Contra Dance:
The Feral Cats with Bridget VerVaet

Come dance with us in the beautiful Hallowell City Hall Ballroom on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Contra Dancing has been a Maine tradition for over 300 years, and it’s still fun and popular. We dance to awesome live music from some of the finest traditional musicians in Maine (and from away).

All dances are taught and called, and the basic step is just walking to the beat, so it’s real easy to learn as you go. There is a brief newcomer’s orientation at the beginning of the dance if you get there at 7 pm. All ages and levels of experience are welcome. If it isn’t fun, we’re not doing it right.

Caller: Bridget VerVaet

Band: the Feral Cats (Frank Ferrel, Doug Protsik, Greg Boardman, Paul Mattor)

Suggested donation is $15-$25 for adults. Pay more if you can; it goes to support the musicians and caller. If you can’t pay that much, pay what you can. Even if you have no money, you should dance. Teens are $5-$8. Children are free. They are our future.
