The stability of Hallowell’s downtown riverbank is threatened by accelerated erosion from heavy rain events and severe flooding associated with a changing climate. The City of Hallowell engaged expert consultants to develop a riverbank stabilization plan using nature-based approaches.
To date, the project's outreach consultant has interviewed business/property owners and managers, residents, and community leaders to gather local observations on the river front; and the engineering team used this information, a site assessment, and historical records to develop stabilization options for community consideration.
This public meeting will include a project overview; a description of pros and cons associated with stabilization alternatives; and small-group discussions -- over desserts! -- about preferred options. This public input is a vital step towards recommendations to safeguard infrastructure, build climate resilience, and enhance natural functions in a way that meets community needs.
This workshop is open to all who are interested in the Hallowell waterfront -- your voice matters!
This project is supported by a Community Action Grant received by HCC-Hallowell Climate Action in response to community priorities for climate action.
