Welcome to Hallowell

We take it you saw our video of Tilly walking her human along Water Street, visiting local shops, and sitting down by the Kennebec.

Tilly is a 6 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She and Lori are both from North Carolina. Tilly is wearing a rainbow tutu because it is pride month and because she looks so cute in it.

The video shows a walk from Union Street north to Granite City Park in Hallowell. Below is some information about the places it goes or passes.

Metaphysics, Ice Cream and Art

The video starts in the crosswalk between Slates Restaurant & Bakery and the Local Scoop, two places you can grab something really good to eat. In the background of the opening shot is Sacred Sage, a new metaphysics shop.

However, Tilly turns to the left to go past the two local art galleries, The Blanchard Gallery and Michel Paul Artist Studio & Gallery.

The video doesn’t show it but Tilly stopped by the studio to visit Michel-Paul who welcomes all dogs.

Tilly visits two shops on her walk through downtown. The first is Forbidden Fruit Gallery which features handblown glass, minerals, and jewelry (in addition to being a vape shop in the page). Lori loves the semi precious stones and Tilly like that the display cases go to the floor where she can see them..

Shopping Spots

The second shop visited was Cocoon Home & Gifts. This shop is new to town this summer and feature simply cool things.

We did not visit Uncorked Wine & Cheese, or Merrill’s Bookshop, which are on this side of the street since Tilly doesn’t drink or read. She would definitely like a slice from Lately’s Pizza, but Lori it was too early for Lori

Too Early for the Night Life

It was also too early for the nightlife which is centered around the Quarry Tap Room and Easy Street Lounge. Both feature live music throughout the week.

Lately’s Pizza is also a favorite with the late night crowd as they are open until 1am on the weekends.

The Rainbow Chairs
at Granite City Park

The multi-colored chairs along the bulkhead in Granite City Park are almost synonymous with Hallowell. These Adirondack chairs were hand made by local craftsman Kieran Kammerer. Sitting in them you have a front row seat for the Sturgeon jumping in the Kennebec.

The video only caught part of downtown, but Tilly and Lori both wanted a drink. So they ended up the walk by going to The Maine House for a craft cocktail and bowl of cold water (you can guess who got what).

If you want to see more of Hallowell, there are couple vids below. But, really, you should drop by yourself. Check out the rest of this website for listings of businesses and events.
